Albert in the Park

On Sunday, I got to take little man to the park again, and this time took the camera.  We went to the park on 96th street, near the subway station, which is a lot more crowded than I expected.  Albert alternated between wanting to watch the older kids and do what they were doing and wishing they would just get off the good swings and slides.

There he is playing in the “river”.   During the summer water flows through it.  I was very happy that he’s learning to watch what he’s stepping on – whenever he would get close to the “river”, he would reach out for my hand.

This was one of his favorite toys.  You’re supposed to stand on it, like a log roll.  He likes to turn it around with his hands, which is all sorts of interesting when one of the big kids comes up and decides they’re going to use it as a log roll while Albert’s hands are still on it.  Which brings me to my next point.  It’s really hard to chase a baby around and take pictures and protect him from all the other children, so most of these pictures are from the back.

Here we are watching the birdies.

Grinning while holding on to assorted pebbles and twigs.

And finally, someone who understands his desire to turn the log with his hands.

And here he is trotting around the world.  (there’s a doggie out of the picture on stage left, and that’s where he’s going, although he’s trying to play it off by looking a different direction)

Then we came home.  Next week – Spring Break for Chris.  Woo hoo!

Haircut day

I promise momma some pictures while she’s at work.  Albert and I went to the park today, and though we stayed about an hour and a half (it was 50 degrees today, a veritable heat wave) I didn’t get any pictures.  I did, however, take some after he got his haircut today.  Enjoy.

These shots brought to you by my birthday presents.

What, don’t blame me.  I don’t know where it is.

Don’t mind me, I’m just reading my book.

Wait a second, what you got over there papa?

Assorted Pictures

UPDATE- Captions provided, sorry for the delay.

I could really use some coffee now…

and I need every drop…

First I tried the spoon, but that took too long.

I really can’t decide if that’s determination or anger…  so I’ll let you decide:

Determination: More yogurt NOW!

Anger: Papa, WHY is there STILL no more yogurt?  I finished this one 3 seconds ago!  Hurry it up!

Of course, this shot was a split second later, so probably neither of those are accurate.

Ambivalence:  I wonder when they’re going to let me watch Baby Time?

He had an absolute fit when I was brushing my teeth.  He wanted my toothbrush, and he had to do it.  No other combination (including giving him his toothpaste and toothbrush) would suffice.

Notice the tear.

Mary, save me from sleep!

This is what I do…

Familiar toy, new location.

Yup, still works.

What other mischief is available?

Oh, hi papa!

I have some ideas on how to fix the TV…

Oh, and he’s started building with blocks.  He can now build and knock down, though knocking down is much more fun after we build the tower.

He managed to get hold of a bottle of soap on the counter, and proceeded to pour it on the floor.  Meg threw the sponge down, asked me to clean it up, and was about to pick him up to get him out of the mess.  Instead, he picked up the sponge, and the rest is better told in pictures.

Mmmmm, soap….

I didn’t post the “after” shot of him licking his hand.  Suffice it to say, the caption would have read: “What did you just let me eat?”

Here he is lathering the floor.

Movie Night

Last weekend, Meg and I decided to watch a movie at night.  Albert was getting tired and ready for bed, so we decided to lay him between us on the bed to watch the movie, thinking he would fall asleep.  We were wrong.

Not only did he stay awake the entire movie, but he’s found a new favorite game:  Dip the pacifier in mom’s (alcoholic) drink and then suck on it.  Repeat.

…That’s some good stuff…

Yum.  Can I have some more?

Hey, this is pretty fun!  What are you guys laughing at?

Yum.

I’m starting to feel a little funny…

And the finale.

(No small children were harmed in the making of this post.)

Caitlin, Jen, and New Years

Caitlin and Jen (her friend from college) came to visit us over New Year’s.  Here’s some pictures from the trip.

Albert went absolutely insane on New Year’s Eve.

Christmas Day

On Christmas morning, Meg came home, then we slept all a bit.  When we woke up, Avery came over and we all opened our presents.

Albert also got to have part of his second candy cane ever.  Notice that he’s sucking on the end that’s still wrapped, and holding the sticky end.

What?  You talkin to me?

Albert got some crayons and drawing paper in his stocking.

See?  Look what I got!

Momma got some new slippers.  New left, old right.

And Albert got his first sip of coffee.

Momma got some nice gift cards.  (And Papa’s loot is over on the left.)

So far, all signs point to his favorite color being blue.

“I’m just really not sure what to do with all these gifts”

The blocks were a hit.  Unfortunately, the only way he plays with them is to put them all back in the jar.  So I build a tower, and he knocks it over and puts the blocks away.  Maybe he’s just trying to say my towers aren’t very good?

Merry Christmas to all!  We’ll catch you closer to New Year’s, when Meg’s sister Caitlin is coming out to see us.

Christmas Eve

We went to mass on Christmas Eve because Meg had to work that night.  In the process, we got dressed up.  Little man wore a suit to mass.

I’m not sure I like shoes, momma.

But I suppose having momma around makes up for it.

Do you think this one matches my sleeper?

Playing Catchup

Well, I promised my parents that I would post some pictures of the Saturday of their trip, because we did some touring around Manhattan.  I’m just now getting to it…

The first thing we did was go see Ground Zero.  You can get a pretty good view of the site from the Winter Garden, but we walked almost completely around.  As you can see, they’ve started construction, and it looks like they’ve got a good portion of one of the new buildings up.

After that, we walked down Battery Park towards the southern end of the island.  Along the way, we stopped to take the requisite Daegele picture.

(That’s actually the Statue of Liberty.)

Then we took Grandma’s picture with the sculpture that used to stand between the twin towers.  It was created by a Frenchman, and though I don’t remember the name of it, it symbolized world peace.  They pulled it out of the debris after the towers fell, and it’s serving as a temporary monument until they can finish the museum.

Here’s grandma and dad patting the“Bull”.  Looks like they did a good job…  the stock market closed last Friday at a record high (for the year).

And last but not least, we went to see my work and Rockefeller Center.  Although the tree was still being lit and covered with scaffolding, we at least got a distance shot of the star on the top.

Thank you all three for coming out, we had a great time and hope you did too.  That’s it for now, check back for Christmas pictures!

Welcome Sturhahns!

As some of you may know, both sets of Albert’s grandparents, his great-grandma Joan, and his aunt Allison are coming to town for his birthday party.  Today, the first set arrived, and Albert got to hang out with the Sturhahns.  We didn’t get a lot of pictures, but I just wanted to post this one of Great-Grandma Sturhahn and baby boy Albert.  I’m sure more pictures will follow soon.

Which sport will he play?

Debate is still open on what sport Albert will play when he gets older.  It seems inevitable with how active he is that he’ll want to play something.  However, we might have gotten a glimpse last weekend…

He shoots, he scores?

Congratulations Bob and Annette

Congratulations to Bob and Annette Baker, who last weekend joined the second level of the Knights of Malta, a service organization in the Catholic Church.  We were able to attend the ceremony.

The procession:

Albert was very loud in a very quiet ceremony.  Poor guy was just tired.

Here’s Annette signing the documents:

And Bob showing us that he accepted his cross:

And here’s everyone at the reception afterward.  Congratulations!

Mission: Disposable

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to dispose of the diapers.

Good luck, this message will self destruct after reading.

First we clean...

First we clean the floor.

Then we eat the Swiffer.

Then we eat the swiffer handle.

Then it’s time for my karate lesson with papa!

Watch out world!  After karate, health food.  That’s right…

What can I say, he earned it?

Goodnight everyone!
