Daddy's day

I got up today at 6 AM like normal, which was rough since I only went to bed at 3, but it's worth it because both Momma and Daddy were home today.  I decided that I would wake Momma up by standing up in my crib, grinning like a madman and screeching.  I was successful, although I think I nearly gave Momma a heart attack because my crib was still at its highest level and over half my body was above the guardrail.  But anyway, we went to church, and it was a pretty good day.  Momma kept calling it Daddy's day, but I'm pretty sure it was still my day.

I'm getting to be pretty big and getting to do lots of big boy stuff, and I'm also learning how to get Momma and Daddy to give me what I want.  For example, if I cry while they're trying to eat, I sometimes get banana chunks!

Afterward, I got to play with the washcloth like normal.  The trick to this one is to grab it when momma tries to clean my face.  Sometimes she doesn't try hard to get it back and I get to keep it for a while.

Fum good washcwof...

And sometimes I wonder about daddy...  He just holds this big black thing in front of his face and it clicks a bunch.

Maybe he's tasting it from behind there...  Wonder what it tastes like... I can't believe you're playing with the camera and not letting me taste it daddy...  That's bad form...

Oh well, I guess there are worse things...  But I just have to let you know exactly what I think of that.

Don't worry though, I have a plan and I will prevail.  I just need to work out a few of the details.

At first, I just wanted a quiet place to think.  I thought I might try the laundry room, because Momma says that's a place Daddy never goes.

Turns out that hiding there wasn't such a great idea.   Somehow they still managed to find me...

I thought I'd try hiding in the drier, but the lint was a little scary.

But actually, it's not quite so bad.  I think the drier is pretty cool.

But of course, Daddy found me again.

Oh well, I'm signing off til next time.  See ya later!

Eat, Sleep, and Visitors revisited

Hello again everyone, it's me, your favorite (and only) Sturhahn baby.

That's me, hanging out on the couch, getting all the attention as usual.  When I'm not hanging out, I'm usually eating.  Mom won't let dad post any pictures of that, but she keeps me well fed and happy.

The only part of eating that I don't always enjoy is the burping.  It's quite painful sometimes, and it doesn't feel natural to have the milk moving in THAT direction.

Marmee has been keeping all the adults well fed.  She cooks at least once a day, sometimes more.  Between courses she gets to hold me for a bit.

When we're not eating, I like to sleep.  Sometimes I sleep by myself on the bed, sometimes I sleep in the boppy, and sometimes I get to sleep with mom or dad.  I sleep better with mom because dad always moves around when I lay on him.

The new addition to my schedule is play time.  I can spend enough time awake each day now (usually during the night) that we can play.  Each of the adults spends our play time a little differently.  For example, Marmee likes to read to me.

Dad varies between trying to teach me to stick out my tongue:

and teaching me how to take a football handoff:

Mom reads me at least one book a day.  But today, she tried teaching me to french kiss:

In addition, I've had quite a few visitors.  Fr. Gill came to visit and give mom a blessing.  Joe and Beth came down from Boston to visit, and Beth came up from Virginia.  Beth's sister Sarah also came.

Well, that's it for now.  Stay tuned, as dad says there will be plenty of pictures tomorrow after Christmas.  Mom is very excited about what she's calling my "First Christmas".  I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about this particular first, since I've had lots of firsts lately.  For example, my first doctor's visit, my first phone conversation, my first foray into double digit weights...  But I'll report back on whether this was worth it.  Until then, PEACE!

Eat, Sleep, and ...Visitors

Well, today started well...  and by started well, I mean started as every day should - from breakfast straight to a nap.

Mom and I are at odds over my eating schedule.  You see, my stomach is pretty small, and mom wants to feed me a lot.  Sometimes I'll take a few sips and then lay back down to sleep (nursing is hard work), but mom wants me to eat a full meal.  So she tries to "piss me off" so that I'll eat some.  This can take various forms, ranging from the foot flick, to the back rub, to...  the airplane?!?

Round 1 goes to me.

After our nap, mom had some things to do around the apartment while dad and Marmee went to mass and the store, so I got to sleep in dad's bed.

Later in the afternoon, a few of mom's friends from work, Christiana and Avery, came over.

After that, Charles and Emilia came over to say hello.

After everyone left, we ate dinner.

And that's about it for the day.  Soon dad will be posting some pictures of everyone who's visited me since I've been outside of mom (sure was nice in there...) so stay tuned.

Tomorrow we have an action-packed day planned.  We're going to go see the doctor, both because all newborns are supposed to go see the doctor after they go home from the hospital, and because mom says I still look a little yellow.  Since tomorrow's also a holy day, we're going to figure out how to get everyone to mass.  Mom also is going to take me to work to "fill out paperwork", though I suspect she just wants to show me off to all of her nurse friends.  After that, mom and dad have Lamaze class, and this one is supposed to be on "newborn care".  Dad keeps threatening to bring a "prop" to this one. Until then, this is Albert signing off.

My first post

Hello everyone. Thank you for being patient me as I begin my blogging career. The day started with me stuck under the bright lights in the hospital.  I didn't think it was so bad, sort of like sitting on the beach... Mom said that I needed to stay there until my Billy was under control. I don't know who Billy is, but apparently he got under control this morning, and I got to go home. Mom was really relieved that we got to leave today. Dad insisted that I go home in style, so they dressed me up in this (collared) suit to go home in.

The nurses at the hospital (who all thought I was cute, by the way) said that I had to be safe on the way home, so Aunt Emilia and Uncle Charles brought me this cool carseat.  Yo, WAZZAP?!?

After the whole rigamarole on how to strap me in properly, dad hailed us a cab so we could get home.  Mom promptly removed me from the carseat and held me all the way home.  Here's me taking my first cab ride in New York!

Mom and Dad were so happy to get me home, though I really don't understand why we had to stand outside the door so long.  Somenthing about Marmee wanting to take some pictures before we went inside...

After we got home, Mom promptly made herself a drink and started calling all her family and telling them how "perfect" I was.  I mean, I think I'm great too, but don't you think perfect is a stretch?  After all, I've already tried to pee on you twice while you were changing my diaper...

After mom was done with me, dad and I took a nap.

After my nap, it was time to get some work done with mom.  (Remember that I came out of that tummy...  Wow.)

After work we went out for drinks.  Out meaning the couch, and drinks meaning wine for mom and Marmee and milk for me.

And what better after a few drinks than to watch some soccer?  My Irish ancestors are proud of me, I'm sure.  In this case, we're watching Aunt Caitlin play in the semifinals of the NAIA championship.  They won their game today (3-0) vs. the #1 seed in the tournament, and they'll play for the championship tomorrow.  Go Caitlin!

Anyway, that's it for now, I'll be sure to keep you posted as more exciting things happen in my life.

Tomorrow's agenda:  Sleeping and eating.
